Sister M. Aloise Begley, IHM

Sister M. Aloise Begley, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Monday, March 2, 1987 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an extended illness.

She was born on July 30, 1906 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, andwas the daughter of the late William C. and Laura Popeney Begley.  She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1926, received the religious habit on August 15, 1926, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1928.

During most of her long teaching career, Sister Aloise taught English and history at the following schools: St. John High School in Pittston, PA; St. Paul High School in Scranton, PA; St. Dominic High School in Oyster Bay, NY; Most Holy Rosary High Schoolin Syracuse, NY; St. Ephrem High School in Brooklyn, NY; St. Mary High School in Manhasset, NY; and during the summer months at Marywood College in Scranton, PA. She also taught at IHM schools in New York City, and Manhasset, NY; and in Masontown and Altoona, PA. Her most recent assignment was at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs High School in Forest Hills, NY.

From 1985 until the time of her death, Sister Aloise served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by brother, William.

She is survived by aunts, uncles and cousins. 

The funeral will be Thursday, March 5 at 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will follow the Mass on Thursday at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Wednesday afternoon or evening.
