Sister Mary Andrew Earley, IHM

Sister Mary Andrew Earley, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Monday, July 19, 2004, at the Mercy Hospital in Scranton, PA.

She was born on November 5, 1922, in New York, NY, and given the name Mary. She was the daughter of the late Michael J. and Mary Agnes Westman Earley. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1943, made temporary profession of her vows on May 8, 1946, and final profession of her vows on August 2, 1949.

Sister Mary Andrew served as a business teacher at the following schools: Bishop Hannan High School in Scranton, PA, from 1981 to 1982; Sacred Heart High School in Carbondale, PA, from 1978 to 1981; Pocono Central Catholic High School in Cresco, PA, from 1964 to 1968 and from 1982 to 1988; St. Dominic High School in Oyster Bay, NY; as well as at high schools located in Pittsburgh, PA; Brooklyn and New York City, NY.

Sister Mary Andrew also served as a secretary in the development office of the Archdiocese of New York; school secretary at Cathedral High School in New York, NY; and receptionist at the IHM Center in Scranton, PA, from 1996 to 2000. 

From 2000 until the time of her death, Sister Mary Andrew served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business from Marywood College, and a Master of Arts degree in education from New York University.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John, and sister, Alice Lamontagne.

She is survived by a brother, Thomas M. of Whitehall, PA, many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. 

The funeral was Monday, July 26 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent followed by interment at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, PA.  Friends may call on Sunday afternoon.
