Sister M. Joachim Dorsey, IHM

Sister M. Joachim Dorsey, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, January 2, 1896 at St. Patrick's Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born January 9, 1870 in Sugar Ridge (Overton), Pennsylvania, and given the name Bridget. She was the daughter of Patrick Dorsey, and the late Margaret Kane Dorsey.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 1, 1887, received the religious habit on March 6, 1888, and made profession of her vows on April 8, 1890.

Sister Joachim served as a teacher at St. Patrick Parochial School in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She is preceded in death by two brothers named William, both who died as babies.

She is survived by four brothers, Patrick, Dennis, James, and John W., four sisters, Mary Pyne, Catherine Mary Leahy, Margaret Lane, and Ellen Lynch, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be on Saturday, January 4 at 9:30 am at St. Patrick's Church in Scranton, Pennsylvania.  Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Friends may call on Friday, January 3 at St. Patrick's Convent.

Sister Joachim died at the convent on Jackson street early yesterday morning.  Her name in the world was Miss Bridget Dorsey.  She was from Overton, Sullivan county (sic), where three sisters survive her (sic).

Sister Joachim was 26 years old and became a noviate in Carbondale in 1887.  When she took the final vows she was assigned to St. Patrick's parochial school on the West Side.

The funeral will take place at 9.30 o'clock tomorrow morning in St. Patrick's church when a requiem mass will be celebrated.  Burial will be made in the Hyde Park Catholic Cemetery."
