Sister M. Eva Connors, IHM

Sister M. Eva Connors, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Tuesday, August 4, 1981, at the Mercy Hospital in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on December 5, 1922 in Pittston, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Mrs. Eva Harrington Connors and the late Thomas H. Connors. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1946, received the religious habit on August 2, 1946, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1948.  She earned a degree from the Univeristy of Notre Dame.

Sister Eva began her teaching career at St. Thomas Commercial School in Archbald, PA, and then taught at St. Patrick High School in Scranton, PA.

In 1953, she was assigned to Marywood College in Scranton, PA, where she served as an instructor in the Business Department, and assistant to the treasurer. In 1955, Sister Eva became treasurer of Marywood College, and in 1968, she was named Vice-President for Business Affairs.

Sister Eva was responsible for the fiscal management and physical plant of Marywood College. During her twenty-seven years in this position, she was part of the executive team which planned and executed tremendous expansion of the college campus. At the same time, Marywood was one of the few private colleges that could lay claim to the record of never having had a deficit year.

Sister Eva held a membership in the National Association of College and University Business Officers, and was a past director on the board of St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania. She also served on numerous college committees.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Robert, who died at the age of nine.

In addition to her mother, Mrs. Eva Harrington Connors of Scranton, PA, she is survived by a sister, Romaine of Gaithersburg, Maryland; two brothers, Gerald "Jerry" Connors of West Haven, Connecticut, and Thomas Connors of Pittston, Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Thursday, August 6 at the IHM Generalate Chapel with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the IHM Generalate, on the Marywood campus, Wednesday beginning at 2:00 p.m.
