Sister Maria Margaret Hanley, IHM

Sister Maria Margaret Hanley, IHM, of the Congregation of Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Friday, December 28, 1979 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an extended illness.

She was born on September 25, 1883, in New York City, NY, and given the name Mary. She was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Catherine Hogan Hanley. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 24, 1923, received the religious habit on December 27, 1923 and made profession of vows on August 15, 1925.

Sister Maria Margaret served as a teacher at Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY; as well as schools located in New Bern, NC, and Pittsburgh, PA. Sister served as a religion teacher at St. Peter of Alcantara Parish in Port Washington, NY, for several years prior to retirement.

From 1969 until the time of her death, Sister Maria Margaret served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by two brothers, John and William Thomas.

She is survived by a niece, and two nephews.

The funeral will be Monday, December 31 with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent all day Sunday.
