Sister M. St. Catharine Keefe, IHM

Sister M. St. Catharine Keefe, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, March 28, 1968 at St. Mary's Convent in Avoca, Pennsylvania.

She was born on September 15, 1886 in Blossburg, Pennsylvania, and given the name Mary Genevieve. She was the daughter of the late John F. and Catherine Cowley Keefe.  She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1911, received the religious habit on August 2, 1912, and made profession of her vows on August 3, 1914.

Sister St. Catharine served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Andrew Parish School in Portland, OR, from 1914 to 1917; St. Mary Elementary School in Patton, PA, from 1917 to 1919; St. Rosalia Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1919 to 1920; St. Patrick School in Scranton, PA, from 1920 to 1927 and 1933 to 1934; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Pittston, PA, from 1927 to 1928; St. Joseph Elementary School in Danville, PA, from 1928 to 1930; Altoona Central Catholic High School in Altoona, from 1930 to 1933; St. LeoElementary School in Ashley, PA, from 1934 to 1935; St. Basil Elementary School in Dushore, PA, from 1935 to 1942; Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA, from 1942 to 1943; St. Bernard Parochial School in Hastings, PA, from 1943 to 1949; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Bellefonte, PA, from 1949 to 1951; and St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA, from 1951 to 1957.

From 1957 until the time of her death, Sister St. Catharine served as a prayer minister at St. Mary's Convent in Avoca.

She is preceded in death by a brother, John F., Jr.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
