Obituary

 

Sister M. Pieta Rouse, IHM

Sister M. Pieta Rouse, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, December 19, 1956 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania. 

Daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Ann Kane Rous, she was born on October 27, 1884 in Dushore, Pennsylvania; and given the name Susanna.  She entered the IHM Congregation on July 2, 1907, received the religious habit on April 13, 1909, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1911.

Sister Pieta enjoyed many years of teaching children in our IHM mission schools.

She is preceded in death by a sister, Jane (Jennie); and brothers, Anthony Joseph and Xavier Francis.

She is survived by three brothers, Henry John, Raymond Michael, and Aloysius Philip; nieces and nephews.

Interment will follow the Mass of Christian burial at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.

The gentle, patient soul of Sister M. Pieta was never more evident than in the sad trying days of helplessness and disability.  The humility which distinguished this fine religious made her scholarly teaching attractive and fruitful.  To know her was to love her.  Hundreds of students thank God for her splendid teaching; her Sisters in Religion attest to her holiness.
