Sister Teresa Marie McGinnis, IHM

Sister Teresa Marie McGinnis, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, September 20, 1975 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on February 17, 1896 in Jessup, Pennsylvania, and was given the name Kathleen Frances. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Hannah Barrett McGinnis. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 24, 1921, received the religious habit on August 2, 1921, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1923.  Before entering the congregation, she taught at Jessup High School in Jessup, PA, from 1916 to 1920.

Sister Teresa Marie served as a teacher at the following IHM schools: St. John the Evangelist in Pittston, PA, from 1921 to 1922; Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA, from 1922 to 1923; St. Ephrem in Brooklyn, NY, from 1923 to 1930 and 1953 to 1955; St. Mary in Avoca, PA, from 1930 to 1931; Most Holy Rosary in Syracuse, NY, from 1931 to 1935; St. Peter's Cathedral in Scranton, PA, from 1935 to 1937; St. John in Pittston, PA, from 1937 to 1938; St. Ann in Scranton, PA, from 1938 to 1939; St. Joseph in Renovo, PA, from 1939 to 1940; St. John the Evangelist in Scranton, PA, from 1940 to 1941; Holy Rosary in Scranton, PA, from 1941 to 1942 and 1955 to 1956; Sacred Hearts in New York City, NY, from 1942 to 1945 and 1946 to 1947; St. Dominic in Oyster Bay, NY, from 1945 to 1946; St. Alphonsus in New York City, NY, from 1947 to 1950; St. Mary in Manhasset, NY, from 1950 to 1953; St. Ann in Nyack, NY, from 1956 to 1957; and St. Raymond in East Rockaway, NY, from 1957 to 1974. 

From 1974 until the time of her death, Sister Teresa Marie served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, John, James and Bernard, and three sisters, Ann Healey, Eleanor and Sister M. Innocent, IHM.

She is survived by a two brothers, Thomas and Joseph, a sister, Sister M. Marina McGinnis, IHM, nieces and nephews.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
