Sister Mary Melanie Rowan, IHM

Sister Mary Melanie Rowan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on September 3, 1980.

Daughter of the late Patrick and Mary Corcoran Rowan, she was born on October 22, 1891 in Scranton, Pennsylvania; and given the name Ruth Madeline. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 6, 1918, received the religious habit on August 5, 1918, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1920.

Sister Mary Melanie served as a nurse at the following institutions:  St. Joseph's Shelter in Scranton, from 1920 to 1926; St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, from 1926 to 1929; Marywood College from 1926 to 1929 and 1952 to 1957; St. Joseph Children's and Maternity Hospital in Scranton, from 1941 to 1952; and at the Marian Convent 1957 until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, William Henry and Thomas F.; and three sisters, Margaret Mary, Nellie, and Catherine Flood.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Interment will follow the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
