Sister M. Adelaide Marie Eells, IHM

Sister M. Adelaide Marie Eells, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, October 18, 1972, at Burlington County Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly, New Jersey, after a sudden illness.

She was born on February 6, 1902 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and given the name Marie Louise.  She was the daughter of the late William Henry and Rose Mary Briechetto Eells.  She entered the IHM Congregation on July 2, 1923, received the religious habit on December 27, 1923, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1925.

Sister Adelaide Marie served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Bernard Elementary School in Hastings, PA, from 1925 to 1926; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA, from 1926 to 1935; Cathedral Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1935 to 1951; St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA, from 1951 to 1953; and St. Mary of the Mount Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1953 to 1959. From 1959 until the time of her death, Sister Adelaide served as teacher at Sacred Heart Elementary School in Mount Holly, New Jersey.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew and William, and two sisters, Elizabeth and Isabella C. Scheel.

She is survived by four sisters, Catherine Mary, Josephine C., Louisa Jane Jennis, and Margaret Rita, a brother, Louis, nieces and nephews.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
