Sister M. Margery McMahon, IHM

Sister M. Margery McMahon, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Monday, June 22, 1992, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on November 27, 1914 in Oneida, New York, and was the daughter of the late John and Margaret Costello McMahon. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1934, was received into the novitiate on August 2, 1934, and made profession of her vows on August 3, 1936.

Sister Margery served as a teacher of intermediate and junior high grade at the following schools: St. Paul School in Scranton, PA; Bishop Hannon High School in Scranton, PA; Bishop O'Hara High School in Dunmore, PA; St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA; Pocono Central Catholic School in Cresco, PA; as well as at IHM schools located in New York, Maryland, Delaware, and Oregon. 

From 1986 until the time of her death, Sister Margery served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

Sister Margery earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in social studies, and a Master of Science degree in education from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John, and a sister, Mary Mullen.

She is survived by a sister, Regina Armstrong of Oneida, NY, nieces, newphews, and cousins, including Sister Joan Ottman, IHM of Scranton, PA.

The funeral will be Thursday, June 25 with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call Wednesday afternoon or evening at the Marian Convent.
