Sister M. Teresa Moran, IHM
Sister M. Teresa Moran, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 9, 1992 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
She was born on November 25, 1905 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Isabel. She was the daughter of the late Thomas P. and Sarah Ann Gurrell Moran. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 1926, received the religious habit on December 29, 1926, and made profession of her vows on January 2, 1929.
Sister Teresa served as a science teacher at the following local schools: Marywood College in Scranton, PA, and Bishop O'Hara High School in Dunmore, PA. She served at high schools throughout the state of New York, including St. Dominic High School in Oyster Bay, NY.
Sister served as principal at the following St. Basil High School in Dushore, PA; St. Mary School in Avoca, PA; and Nativity of Our Lord High School in Scranton, PA.
For a period of ten years, she was Director of Postulants, and Assistant Director of Novices for the IHM Congregation in Scratnon, PA.
From 1981 until the time of her death, Sister Teresa served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in science from Marywood College, and went on to obtain an Master of Science degree in biological sciences from Columbia University. She did further study at Georgetown University, New York State University, the University of Scranton, and others. She received a Service Award from the Scranton Chapter of the Red Cross and served on the Steering Committee for Youth Activities on the national level. A staunch supporter of the Pro-Life Movement, she was involved as a volunteer up until the day she died.
She is preceded in death by two brothers, Francis and Thomas.
She is survived by a niece, a nephew, and cousins.
The funeral will be Monday, April 13 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Marian Convent chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Sunday afternoon or evening.
