Sister M. Veronice Hennigan, IHM

Sister M. Veronice Hennigan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Friday evening, August 23, 1985 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on June 16, 1913 in Scranton, Pennsylvania and the family later moved to Brooklyn, New York. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Ellen Lynn Hennigan. She entered the I.H.M. Congregation on September 8, 1938, received the religious habit on May 8, 1939, and made profession of her vows on May 8, 1941.

Sister Veronice taught intermediate grades at the following schools: St. Mary in Manhasset and later at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School in Forest Hills, New York. She served as a business teacher at St. Rose High School in Carbondale, and also at St. Patrick in Scranton. At Holy Name of Mary Catechetical Center in Montrose, she was music teacher for a year. 

From 1964 until the time of her death, Sister Veronice served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

Survivors include two sisters, Mary and Margaret Hennigan, Rego Park, New York; a brother, Joseph Hennigan, Pasadena, California, and nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Monday afternoon or evening.
