Sister M. Rosina McLane, IHM
Sister M. Rosina McLane, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Thursday, May 3, 1984 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after a brief illness.
She was born on April 29, 1921 in Pittston, Pennsylvania, and was daughter of the late Patrick and Mary Connors McLane, and the step-daughter of Mary Gibbons McLane. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1939, received the religious habit on May 7, 1940, and made profession of her vows on May 8, 1942.
As a teacher of high school English and home economics, Sister Rosina served most recently on the faculty of Bishop Hannan High School in Scranton, PA. Prior assignments found her at St. Ann High School in Scranton, PA; St. Rose High School in Carbondale, PA; and Bishop O'Reilly High School in Kingston, PA. She also taught at IHM high schools in New Bern, Raleigh, and Washington, North Carolina, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Manhasset and New York, NY, and Pittsburgh and Lock Haven, Pennsylvania.
Having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education at Marywood College, Sister Rosina also earned a Master of Arts degree from New York University, and did further graduate study in journalism at Seattle University and Oklahoma University. She held membership in many professional organizations and received a citation from the Pennsylvania School Press Association in 1975 for her work as adviser for school publications.
She is preceded in death by two brothers, Gerard and Thomas.
In addition to her step-mother, Mrs. Mary Gibbons McLane, Sister Rosina is also survived by two sisters, Jean (Eugenia) McLane of Pittston, PA, and Patricia O'Connell of Parlin, NJ, two brothers, Francis and Thomas, both of Pittston, PA, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday, May 5 with Mass of Christian Burial in the Marian Convent Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Friday afternoon or evening.
