"DIED - at the Academy of the Immaculate Heart, in this place on Tuesday morning the 21st of March, 1876, Sister M. Leo Hawley, aged 21 years.

The family name of the deceased was Hannah Hawley. She entered the order of the Immaculate Heart of Mary three years ago, and had resided in Pittston about a year, teaching mathematics in the Academy. Previous to assuming the vows of a religious she resided in Silver Lake, Susquehanna County, where her family still lives. About six weeks ago she was taken sick with erysipelas, and being of frail constitution, continued to decline until death loosed the silver cord. The funeral yesterday morning was largely attended. A high mass was celebrated in Saint John's church and the body was interred in the parish cemetery."
