Sister M. Salome Klarsch, IHM

Sister M. Salome Klarsch, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, October 1, 1975 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on December 29, 1908 in Danville, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth Koch Klarsch.  She entered the IHM Congregation February 2, 1929, received the religious habit on August 2,1929, and made profession of her vows on July 31, 1931.

Sister Salome served as a muisc teacher in the following schools: St. Bernard Parochial School in Hastings, PA, from 1931 to 1932; Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Elementary School in Forest Hills, NY, from 1932 to 1933; St. Thomas Regional School in Providence, RI, from 1933 to 1934; St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, MD, from 1934 to 1935; and St. Agnes Elementary School in Baltimore, MD, from 1935 to 1939.

Sister served as principal, muisc teacher, and superior of the following schools/convents: St. Rita Elementary School in Dundalk, MD, from 1939 to 1956; St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, MD, from 1956 to 1962; St. Peter of Alcantara Elementary School in Port Washington, NY, from 1962 to 1963; St. Ann Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1964 to 1970; IHM Academy in Coeur d'Alene, ID, from 1970 to 1971; and  Epiphany Elementary School in Sayre, from 1971 to 1975.  

She also served on the support staff of the IHM Novitiate in Scranton, PA, from 1963 to 1964.

At the time of her death, Sister Salome was serving as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by a an infant brother, Anthony.

She is survived by a sister, Helen Catherine Conkievich, and a nephew, Edward.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
