Sister Mary Ruth Bailey, IHM

Sister Mary Ruth Bailey, IHM, (formerly known as Sister Mary Anthony) of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, December 26, 2004, in Goldsboro, NC.

She was born on April 21, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA; and was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Foley Bailey. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1947, made her temporary profession of vows on May 8, 1950, and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1953.

Sister Mary Ruth served as a teacher at the following schools: Most Holy Rosary Elementary School in Syracuse, NY, from 1950 to 1954; St. Monica Elementary School in Raleigh, NC, from 1954 to 1960; St. John the Baptist Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1960 to 1961; St. Aloysius Elementary School in Cresson, PA, from 1961 to 1967; Saints Philip and James Elementary School in Smithtown, NY, from 1967 to 1969; St. Paul Elementary School in New Bern, NC, from 1969 to 1973; Lock Haven Catholic Elementary School in Lock Haven, PA, from 1973 to 1975; St. Raymond Elementary School in East Rockaway, NY, from 1975 to 1977; St. Rapheal Elementary School in St. Petersburg, FL, from 1977 to 1984; and St. Mary Elementary School in Goldsboro, NC, from 1984 until the time of her death.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education, and a Master of Science degree in elementary education, both from Marywood College in Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by a brother Thomas, two and sisters Zelia and Helen M.

She is survived by a brother Frank of Hingham, MA, and a sister-in-law Mary D. Bailey of Munhall, PA. 

Visitation and the funeral were held at St. Mary's Church in Goldsboro, NC.  On January 3, interment will take place at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, PA.
