Sister M. Cyrillus O'Malley, IHM

Sister M. Cyrillus O'Malley, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Tuesday, January 16, 1979 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an extended illness.

She was born on December 13, 1900 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Claire. She was the daughter of the late John J. and Mary Agnes O'Hora O'Malley. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 25, 1923, received the religious habit on August 15, 1923, and made her first profession of vows on August 15, 1925.

Sister Cyrillus served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Hollidaysburg, PA; St. Joseph Elementary School in Danville, PA; Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Clare Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Ann Elementary School in Devon, CT; Most Holy Rosary Elementary School in Syracuse, NY; St. Cecilia Elementary School in Exeter, PA; and St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Pittston, PA.

From 1973 until the time of her death, Sister Cyrillus served in prayer ministry at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred, Sister Marie Rose, IHM, and Mary Devine, and four brothers, Joseph, Cyril Joseph, John, and Francis P.

She is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Brust of Clark's Green, PA, and Katherine of Scranton, PA, and a brother, Daniel of Scranton, PA.

The funeral will be Thursday with Mass of Christian Burial in the Marian Convent Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Tuesday evening and all day Wednesday.
