Sister M. Maronita Egan, IHM

Sister M. Maronita Egan, IHM,  of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Wednesday, February 22, 1989, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on January 30, 1910 in Waterbury, Connecticut, and was the daughter of the late James and Margaret Mitchell Egan.  She entered the IHM Congregation on February 1, 1931, received the religious habit on July 31, 1931, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1933.

Sister Maronita taught intermediate and junior high level at the following schools: St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Basil Elementary School in Dushore, PA; and St. Patrick Elementary School in Olyphant, PA; and at IHM schools located in Maryland.

She served as a catechetical and kindergarten teacher at St. John the Evangelist Catechetical Center in Binghamton, NY; and Holy Name of Mary Catechetical Center in Montrose, PA.

Sister Maronita also served as a nurse's aide at the Marian Convent, from 1970 to 1981.

From 1981 until the time of her death, she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by a brother, and two sisters, Margaret and Ethel.

She is survived by cousins. 

The funeral will be Saturday, February 25 with Mass of Christian Burial in the Marian Convent Chapel at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Friday afternoon or evening.
