Sister M. Annette Corcoran, IHM

Sister M. Annette Corcoran, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on June 9, 1902 in Old Forge, Pennsylvania, and given the name Alice.  She was the daughter of the late John P. and Catherine Hayes Corcoran. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 7, 1922, made temporary profession of her vows on December 29, 1924, and final profession of her vows on December 8, 1930.

Sister Annette served as a teacher and principal at the following schools: Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA, from 1925 to 1934 and 1946 to 1949; St. John High School in Pittston, PA, from 1934 to 1939, 1942 to 1946, and 1955 to 1958; Pocono Central Catholic High School in Cresco, PA, from 1961 to 1967; St. Dominic High School in Oyster Bay, NY; St. Mary High School in Manhasset, NY; and at schools located in Pittsburgh, PA.

Sister Annette served as a teacher at West Scranton Catholic High School in Scranton, PA, from 1969 to 1974, and Bishop Hannon High school in Scranton, PA, from 1974 to 1980.

She also served as the education supervisor for the IHM Congregation in Scranton, PA, from 1958 to 1961.

From 1980 until the time of her death, Sister Annette served as a prayer minister at the following convents: River Street in Scranton, PA, from 1980 to 1989; the IHM Center in Scranton, PA, from 1989 to 1990; and the Marian Convent, from 1990 until the time of her death.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Marywood College, and a Master of Arts degree in education/French from Villanova University.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Nora Joyce, Catherine, Mary R., and Sister Miriam Catherine, IHM, and three brothers, Dr. William J., Thomas and Dr. John H.

She is survived by nieces, Catherine Corcoran of Scranton, PA, Alice Holmes of Clark's Summit, PA, Ann Gallagher of Covina, CA, Mary Kay Mundu of Silver Spring, MD, Rosemary Newberry of Riverside, CT, Nancy Howell of Liverpool, NY, Jane Briggs of Nedham, MA, and nephews, John S. Corcoran of Somerville, MA, Thomas F. Corcoran and Joseph Corcoran both of Camden, MA, and Atty. William Corcoran of Washington, DC.

The funeral will be Saturday, April 13 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Friday after 2:00 p.m.
