Sister Eleanor Flynn, IHM

Sister Eleanor Flynn, IHM,  (formerly Sister M. Irene) of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Wednesday, December 5, 1984 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on July 14, 1920 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and was the daugther of the late James and Mary Carey Flynn. She entered the IHM Congrega­tion on September 8, 1943, received the religious habit on May 8, 1944, and made profession of her vows on May 8, 1946.

Sister Eleanor served as a teacher at St. Charles Borromeo Elementary School in Sugar Notch, PA, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Elementary School in Rocky Mount, NC.

Sister Eleanor also served on the support staff of St. Joseph's Center in Scranton, PA; the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA; and St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, PA. She also served in child care for resident children at the Catholic Child Care Center in Hollidaysburg, PA.

She is preceded in death by a sister, Mary, and three brothers, Paul, Gerard and Harold.

She is survived by two brothers, Robert of Scranton, PA, and James of Stratford, Connecticut, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Friday, December 7 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Marian Convent chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, PA.  Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Thursday afternoon or evening.

Archival Remembrance:

After having taught primary grades for a few years, Sister Eleanor Flynn went into the health care ministry. She served on the staff at St. Joseph Center and the Marian Convent, this city, at St. Joseph Hospital, Carbondale, and at the Catholic Child Care Center in Hollidaysburg.
