Sister M. Charlotte Houlihan, IHM

Sister M. Charlotte Houlihan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, May 4, 1970 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on October 1, 1886 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Helen.  She was the daughter of the late Timothy and Anna May Houlihan. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 6, 1907, received the religious habit on July 16, 1907, and made profession of her vows on April 13, 1909.

Sister Charlotte served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Basil Elementary School in Dushore, PA; St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA; Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Lock Haven, PA; St. Bernard Parochial School in Hastings, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in Spangler, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Manhasset, NY; Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Elementary School in Forest Hills, NY; St. Rose Elementary School in Carbondale, PA; and Our Lady of Good Counsel Elementary School in Inwood, NY.  

Sister also served in child care for resident children at St. Patrick's Orphanage in Scranton, PA, from 1942 to 1948.

From 1956 until the time of her death, Sister Charlotte served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by four siblings, including brothers Daniel and John.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
