Sister M. Valeria Kendrick, IHM

Sister M. Valeria Kendrick, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, December 10, 1966, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania.

She was born on December 24, 1894, in Northwood, North Dakota, was given the name Marian. She was the daughter of the late William D. Kendrick and Myrtle Mae Corkins Kendrick, and the step-daughter of the late W. Harvey Tomlinson. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 3, 1915, received the habit on December 30, 1915, and made profession of her vows on January 3, 1918.

Sister Valeria served as a teacher at the following schools: Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY, in 1918; IHM Academy in Coeur d'Alene, ID, from 1918 to 1920 and 1921 to 1928; St. Rosalia Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1920 to 1921 and 1935 to 1936; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Altoona, PA, in 1929; Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Elementary School in New York, NY,  from 1929 to 1930; St. Joseph Elementary School in Renovo, PA, from 1931 to 1933; and St. Patrick Elementary School in Oneida, NY, from 1934 to 1935.

Sister Valeria also served as a housekeeper at St. Thomas Convent in Providence, RI, from 1933 to 1934; in child care for resident children at St. Joseph Children's and Maternity Hospital in Scranton, PA, from 1936 to 1937; and as a seamstress making habits for the sisters at the IHM Motherhouse in Scranton, PA, from 1937 to 1957.

From 1957 until the time of her death, Sister Valeria served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by a sister Mollie.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
