Sister Mary Hubert O'Boyle, IHM
Sister Mary Hubert O'Boyle, IHM of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Wednesday, December 17, 1986 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
She was born on May 18, 1900 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Veronica. She was the daughter of the late Edward Francis and Catherine Malloy O'Boyle. She entered the IHM Congregation on December 8, 1919, received the religious habit on August 2, 1920, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1922.
Sister Mary Hubert served as a business teacher at the following schools: St. John High School in Pittston, PA; St. Rose High School in Carbondale, PA; St. Joseph High School in Danville, PA; St. Joseph High School in Williamsport, PA; Immaculate Conception High School in Lock Haven, PA; as well as at high schools located in Pittsburgh, PA. New Bern, NC, and New York, NY.
Sister also served as principal St. Patrick Elementary School in Spangler, PA; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Bellefonte, PA; as well at some of the schools listed above.
She also served as administrator at St. Joseph's Children's and Maternity Hospital in Scranton, PA, and her most recent assignment was at Little Flower School in Bethesda, MD, where she served as the school's librarian..
She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in business from Marywood College, and a Master's degree in education from Duquesne University.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Patrick, and a sister, Delphine May.
She is survived by a sister, Sister Maria Magdala, IHM of Silver Spring, MD, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Friday afternoon or evening.

Sister Mary Hubert O'Boyle seemed to specialize in doing thoughtful deeds. She was quiet and very unassuming. She gave from the heart. She saw things to be done and she did them. If you left your laundry and went off to school, it would be washed, dried and neatly folded on your bed on your return. If one was sick or away, your charge was always done...and you'd never see her do it. Before you'd ask, she'd know your problems or your needs. She helped because she "wanted" to. She found joy in being kind and making others happy. She made "community" a better place by practicing the "art of reaching out to others." She was very much "Martha" of the bible story of Mary and Martha. Sister Mary Hubert's always cheerful attitude made her very dear to all who knew her.
