Sister Mary Rosarium Collins, IHM

Sister Mary Rosarium Collins, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, January 16, 1978 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on June 3, 1901 in Carbondale, PA, and given the name Margretta Jane. She was the daughter of the late John and Margaret Jane McDonough Collins. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1919, made temporary profession of her vows on December 28, 1922, and final profession of her vows on December 8, 1930.  

Sister Mary Rosarium was an accomplished musician and served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Ann Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1921 to 1925; St. Raymond Elementary Schoolon Long Island, NY, from 1932 to 1934; St. Mary School in Goldsboro, NC, from 1934 to 1935; Holy Rosary School in Scranton, PA, from 1935 to 1937; St. John Elementary School in Pittston, PA, from 1937 to 1939 and 1940 to 1942; St. Agnes Elementary School in Woodland, MD, from 1939 to 1940; St. Patrick Elementary School in White Haven, PA, from 1942 to 1950; and St. John Boy's Home in Cresson, PA, from 1950 to 1961. She also served as a music teacher for resident children at the St. Joseph's Children's and Maternity Hospital in Scranton, PA, from 1925 to 1932.

From 1962 until the time of her death, Sister Mary Rosarium served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by a brother, William, and two sisters, Irene and Mary.

She is survived by four brothers, John, Joseph, Victor and Paul, a sister, Alyce Harlan, nieces and nephews.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
