Sister Miriam Eugene Carroll, IHM

Sister Miriam Eugene Carroll, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, September 18, 2002 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on October 19, 1911 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Mary Alice. She was the daughter of the late Eugene and Mary Elizabeth Connor Carroll.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1930, made temporary profession of her vows on April 24, 1933, and final profession of her vows on August 2, 1936.

Sister Miriam Eugene served as a teacher at the following schools: Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1954 to 1961; St. Clare Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1970 to 1977; St. Cecilia Elementary School in Exeter, PA, from 1977 to 1982; St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA, from 1982 to 1983; Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1988 to 1990; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Bellefonte, PA; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Binghamton, NY; St. Raymond Elementary Schoolin East Rockaway, NY; Holy Trinity Elementary School in Poughkeepsie, NY; as well as at elementary schools located in Pittsburgh, PA, Manhasset, NY, and Baltimore, MD.

Sister served as an catechetical instructor at St. Ignatius Catechetical Center in Kingston, PA, from 1941 to 1949. She also served as a instructor at  Elizabeth Ann Seton Tutoring Center in Dunmore, PA, from 1984 to 1988, and the IHM Educational Enrichment Institute in Scranton, PA, from 1990 to 1998.

From 1998 until the time of her death, Sister Miriam Eugene served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in French/social studies, and a Master of Science degree in psychology, both from Marywood College.

She is survived by several cousins, including Anne Loftus of Dunmore, PA.

The funeral will be Monday, September 23 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Sunday after 2:00 p.m.
