Sister M. St. Thomas Coyle, IHM

Sister M. St. Thomas Coyle, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died Friday, December 25, 1992, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on January 15, 1903 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late John J. and Mary Donnelly Coyle.  She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1921, received the religious habit on December 29, 1921, and made profession of her vows on December 27, 1923.

Sister St. Thomas served as a music and intermediate grades teacher at the following schools: St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in Olyphant, PA; St. Basil Elementary School in Dushore, PA; and St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA; as well as at schools located in New York and New Jersey.

Before her final ill­ness, Sister St. Thomas served as a seamstress at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by two sisters, Rose Coyne and Mary Granville, and a brother, Vincent.

She is survived by a brother-in-law, John Coyne of Scranton, PA, and several nieces.

The funeral will be Wednesday, December 30 with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Tuesday afternoon after 3:00 p.m.
