Sister M. Luigi Saxe, IHM

Sister M. Luigi Saxe, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, July 25, 1975 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on September 29, 1880, in Dushore, Pennsylvania, and given the name Leonora. She was the daughter of the late Martin and Elizabeth Dunkleberger Saxe. She entered the IHM Congregation on June 20, 1901, received the religious habit on April 1, 1902, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1904.

Sister Luigi served served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA, from 1904 to 1905 and 1912 to 1915; St. Joseph Elementary School in Spokane, WA, from 1905 to 1908; St. Basil Academy in Dushore, PA, from 1908 to 1910; St. Mary of the Mount School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1910 to 1912; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Bellefonte, PA, from 1915 to 1917; St. Mary Elementary School in Patton, PA, from 1917 to 1919; St. Rosalia School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1925 to 1928; St. Paul School in Scranton, PA, from 1928 to 1932; Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY, from 1932 to 1933; St. Cecilia School in Exeter, PA, from 1933 to 1934; St. Patrick School in Olyphant, PA, from 1934 to 1940 and 1949 to 1953; St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA, from 1940 to 1942; St. Rose School in Carbondale, PA, from 1942 to 1944; and St. Patrick School in Scranton, PA, from 1944 to 1949.  From 1953 to 1960, she served as the high school librarian at St. Patrick School in Scranton, PA

From 1960 until the time of her death, Sister Luigi served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Frank; and two sisters, Margaret Flynn and Adeline Corgan.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Interment will follow the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
