Sister M. Emeline Hastings, IHM

Sister M. Emeline Hastings, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, February 18, 1971 at St. Ann's Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on December 10, 1910 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Catherine Ann. She was the daughter of the late Martin and Sarah Joyce Hastings. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 7, 1928, received the religious habit on April 1, 1929, and made profession of her vows on April 14, 1931.

Sister Emeline served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Rosalia Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1928 to 1929; St. Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, NY, from 1931 to 1938; Epiphany Elementary School in Sayre, PA, from 1938 to 1943; St. Bernardine Elementary School in Baltimore, MD, from 1943 to 1948; St. Ann Elementary School in Nyack, NY, from 1948 to 1950; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1950 to 1955; St. Rose Elementary School in Carbondale, PA, from 1955 to 1962; Our Lady of Grace Elementary School in Greensboro, NC, from 1962 to 1968; St. Patrick Elementary School in Oneida, NY, from 1968 to 1969; and Holy Trinity Elementary School in Poughkeepsie, NY, from 1969 to 1970.

Sister served as principal at Our Lady of Grace Elementary School in Greensboro, NC, from 1962 to 1968, and St. Patrick Elementary School in Oneida, NY, from 1968 to 1969.

From 1970 until the time of her death, Sister Emeline served as a teacher at St. Ann Elementary School in Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
