Sister M. Florine Madigan, IHM

Sister M. Florine Madigan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on September 9, 1928 in Amsbry, PA, and given the name Patricia. She was the daughter of the late Paul William and Elizabeth Verobish Madigan.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1945, and made her temporary profession of vows on May 8, 1948, and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1951.                                   

Sister Florine served as teacher at the following schools: St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1948 to 1950; St. Patrick Elementary School in Olyphant, PA, from 1950 to 1955; St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA, from 1972 to 1975; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Bellefonte, PA; St. Mary-John School in Cresson, PA; as well as at elementary schools located in Lock Haven and Pittsburgh, PA, and Baltimore, MD. 

Sister served as principal at St. Bernard Elementary School in Hastings, PA, from 1985 to 1997. 

From 2000 until the time of her death, Sister Florine was a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education, and a Master of Science degree in elementary education, both from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul, and two sisters, Mary Florine Cook and Deanna Madigan.

She is survived by a sister, Ellen Glass of Cresson, PA, and nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday, January 3 at 9:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent followed by interment at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow.  Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Friday, January 2 between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
