Sister M. Nadine Moran, IHM

Sister M. Nadine Moran, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, September 26, 1976 at St. John-Queens Hospital in Forest Hills, New York, after several weeks of illness.

She was born on April 11, 1921 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Mary Joan. She was the daughter of the late William and Helen McGee Moran. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1939, received the religious habit on May 7, 1940, and made profession of her vows on May 8, 1942.

Sister Nadine served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA, from 1942 to 1976; Cathedral High School in Scranton, PA, from 1956 to 1962; and Our Lady of Grace Elementary School in Greensboro, NC, from 1974 to 1975.  She served as the principal and superior at Mother of Mercy School Elementary School in Washington, NC, from 1962 to 1967, and at the IHM Academy in Coeur d'Alene, ID, from 1967 to 1968. 

From 1975 until the time of her death, she served as principal of Our Lady of Mercy Elementary School in Forest Hills, NY.

Sister Nadine was a former member of the IHM Congregation's leadership team, where she served as Assistant to the Superior General from 1968 to 1974.  She was also a member of the Board of Trustees of Marywood College. 

She is survived by two brothers, William of Scranton, PA, and Paul of Panama City, Florida, five sisters, Sister M. Wilmett, IHM of Scranton, PA, Kathryn Hollow of Scranton, PA, Alice Kearney of Williston Park, NY, Theresa Schofield of Scranton, PA, and Jeanne Walsh of Scranton, PA, and several nieces and nephews.

Reverend John J. Johnston, Pastor of Our Lady of Mercy Church, will offer a funeral liturgy on Monday, September 27 at 9:30 a.m. in Forest Hills, NY.  The children of the school will participate.  A funeral mass will be offered at the IHM Generalate Chapel on Wednesday, September 29 at 9:30 a.m.  Officers of the Mass has not yet been named.  Interment will follow the Mass on Wednesday at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call all day Tuesday at the Marian Convent.
