Sister Maria Emeric Donati, IHM

Sister Maria Emeric Donati, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died Monday, December 16, 1991, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on April 13, 1895 in New York, NY, and given the name Ida. She was the daughter of the late Richard and Mary Magdalena Hauser Donati.  She entered the IHM Congrega­tion on September 8, 1930, received the religious habit on April 14, 1931, and made profession of her vows on April 24, 1933.

Before joining the IHM community, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in French and physical education from the University of Pittsburgh, and had experience as a teacher there. Later, she obtained an Master of Arts degree in French from Fordham University, and did further study at Laval University in Quebec, Canada; St. John's University in New York, NY; and King's College in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Sister Maria Emeric served as a French and physical education teacher at Marywood College and Marywood Seminary, both located in Scranton, PA. She also served as French teacher at the following schools: St. John High School in Pittston, PA; St. Dominic High School in Oyster Bay; and Maria Regina High School in Uniondale, New York.

In 1984, Sister Maria Emeric retired to the Marian Convent, where she continued to serve as librarian and tutor, until her recent illness.

She is preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Otto Joseph Karl.

She is survived by a niece, Mrs. Mary Ida Sandanato, Brook, IL, and two nephews. 

The funeral will be on Wednesday, December 18 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Tuesday afternoon and evening.
