Sister Mary Edward Hickey, IHM

Sister Mary Edward Hickey, IHM, of the Congregation of Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Friday, April 27, 1990 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on November 21, 1910 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Frank and Catherine Cullen Hickey. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1930, received the religious habit on April 14, 1931, and made profession of her vows on April 24, 1933.

As a teacher of intermediate grades, Sister Mary Edward served as a teacher at the following schools: St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Pittston, PA; Epiphany Elementary School in Sayre, PA; St. Bernard Elementary School in Hastings, PA; St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, MD; St. Paul Elementary School in Edgewood, RI; St. Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, NY; as well as at elementary schools located in Lock Haven and Pittsburgh, PA; and LaPlata, MD.

From 1981 until the time of her death, Sister Mary Edward served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by two brothers, Francis V. and George, and two sisters, Catherine Irene and Catherine Elizabeth Blum.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be on Tuesday, May 2 with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in the Marian Convent chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Monday afternoon or evening.
