Sister Maria Angela Orr, IHM

Sister Maria Angela Orr, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, February 9, 1999 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on January 13, 1906 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Margaret. She was the Daughter of the late Bernard J. and Brigid A. Graney Orr. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1925, made temporary profession of her vows on December 28, 1927, and final profession of her vows on July 31, 1931.

Sister Maria Angela served as a teacher at the following schools: St. John Elementary School in Scranton, PA, in 1928; Nativity of Our Lord Elementary School in Scranton, PA,  from 1933 to 194. She also served in schools located in Forest Hills, NY, Wilmington, DE, Baltimore, MD, and New York, NY.

Sister served as the founding superior of Our Lady of Grace Convent in Manhasset, NY from 1959 to ­1965; catechetical instructor at St. Peter's Parish in Wellsboro, PA, from 1965 to 1969; and on the support staff of the IHM Novitiate in Scranton, PA, from 1969 to 1971.

From 1971 until the time of her death, Sister Maria Angela served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She held a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics from Marywood College, and a Master of Arts degree in practical arts from Columbia University.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sister M. St. Mary, IHM, and Jule Corcoran, and a nephew, Gerald Corcoran.

She is survived by two nieces, Dr. Margaret Mary Deignan of Westport, CT, and Marygrace Fahey of Clark's Green, PA, two nephews, James Corcoran of  Fairfax, VA, and Kevin Corcoran of Carlisle, PA, and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

The funeral will be Saturday, February 13, at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by internment at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Friday, February 12 after 2:00 p.m.
