Sister Mary Joan Minahan, IHM

Sister Mary Joan Minahan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, September 20, 1966 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on August 31, 1894 in Troy, New York, and given the name Ann. She was the daughter of late Charles W. and Mary Niles Minahan. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 6, 1921, received the religious habit on August 2, 1921, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1923.

Sister Mary Joan served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA, from 1923 to 1925; St. Leo School in Ashley, PA, from 1925 to 1926; St. Paul Schol in Scranton, PA, from 1926 to 1927; Holy Rosary School in Scranton, PA, from 1927 to 1932; St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA, from 1932 to 1933; St. Peter of Alcantara School in Port Washington, NY, from 1933 to 1934 and 1951 to 1957; St. Patrick School in Oneida, NY, from 1934 to 1941; and Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School in Forest Hills, NY, from 1941 to 1951.

From 1957 until the time of her death, Sister Mary Joan served in prayer ministry at the Marian Convent.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
