Sister Janice Heisey, IHM Celebrates 30 Years of Service

The Spanish Catholic Dental Clinic in Washington, DC, celebrated thirty years of ministry and the retirement of Sister Janice Heisey on November 13. A liturgy was offered in the clinic chapel by the Most Rev. Mario Dorsonville, DD, Director of the Center for eight years. A reception was held in the dental clinic waiting room for a host of well-wishers, including Catholic Charities administrators, current Spanish Catholic Center staff and administrators, volunteer dentists, and friends. A phrase being passed around was, "Sister was the glue of our clinic!"

The Spanish Catholic Center is now part of Catholic Charities of Washington, DC, providing health and social services for the Latino community. Services are expanding in Montgomery and Prince George's Counties.

Other IHMs who have worked in this Spanish ministry are Sisters Mary Martha Gardiner, Mary Newett, and Helene Hicks.
