Elizabeth McGill Enters IHM Congregation

On Tuesday, March 20, 2018, Elizabeth “Liz” Ann McGill joyfully expressed her desire to enter the candidacy phase of incorporation with the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scranton, PA. Liz’s parents, Richard and Helen, her family, her friends and many IHM Sisters either gathered in the IHM Center chapel or via live video streaming to pray for Liz and to offer her their support, love and encouragement as she seeks to respond in faith to God’s call to religious life.

Sister Mindy Welding affirmed Liz’s readiness to become a candidate and her desire to deepen her relationship with Jesus, to live in community and to integrate the IHM charism and mission into her life. Sister Ellen Maroney thanked Liz for her willingness to live out God’s call in the spirit of the IHM Congregation.

As Director of Candidates and Novices, Sister Mary Elaine Anderson promised to be companion and guide, sensitive to Liz’s needs, so that she can freely respond to God’s whisperings and action in her life.

In the spirit of our IHM founding tradition, Sisters Maria Rose Kelly and Jean Coughlin placed a stole on Liz’s shoulder and led the Sisters, Liz’s family, and her friends in blessing her as she begins her life as an IHM candidate. May God’s love, our lives of prayer
and our example of loving service sustain Liz on her journey!

Sister Ellen:  Elizabeth, what do you see as you enter the candidacy phase of incorporation with the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scranton, Pennsylvania?

Elizabeth:  I seek to live community within this Congregation. I aspire to commit myself to the IHM mission focused on following Jesus as a community of disciples, aware of being sent to be a clear and understandable prophetic witness to the presence of God in the world. It is my hope to know Jesus Christ more personally, as I discern God’s creative call in my life.  I ask to be supported in this process by the wisdom, guidance, witness and love of the IHM Community. (Constitutions #8, adapted)

Sister Ellen and congregation: God of beginnings, together we walk into mystery.  We face the future not knowing what the days and months will bring to us or how we will respond.  Be love in us as we journey. We welcome Elizabeth as she enters into this community of disciples desiring to become a clear and understandable prophetic witness of Your presence in the world.  May our lives of prayer and our example of loving service sustain Elizabeth on her journey.  God of all beginnings, we praise you.  Amen.

Sister Ellen:  May we be women with love and justice in our hearts, with welcome in our smiles, with service etched upon our hands. May our lives be a living legacy to our God as Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
