Studying at CTU

by Rachel Terry, IHM

Studying at Catholic Theological Union has been such a blessing and I am most appreciative of the opportunity and your prayerful support during this time. Along with my courses which are so enriching, I have been able to build stronger connections with our Sisters of St. Casimir and form new connections with men and women religious from all over the country and the world. As part of my academic program this year, I am doing a ministry practicum at Old St. Patrick's Church in Chicago. St. Pat's is the oldest public building in the city, having survived the Chicago fire by a mere two blocks, and it remains a vibrant Catholic community in the heart of the city. Some of the experiences I will have in this placement include walking with candidates for RCIA, participating in the North Lawndale Kinship Initiative, and working with the young adult ministry. The first weekend I arrived, the parish was celebrating "halfway to St. Patrick's Day" in a grand style complete with bagpipers and soda bread after Mass! If the celebration of half way was any indication, St. Patrick's Day will be an extra special treat. You might enjoy viewing the livestream of that Mass and hearing some of the lovely Irish music and the pastor's (Fr. Pat McGrath, SJ) thoughtful homily on that festive day: https://livestream.com/oldstpats/9am/videos/232966529
