Archbishop Neale School, La Plata Celebrates 90th Anniversary

Archbishop Neale School, La Plata, MD celebrated the first of its 90th Anniversary celebrations on Sunday, December 3, 2017 with a special liturgy at Sacred Heart Church in La Plata and a reception at the school. Father Oliver McGready, former pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, is pictured below with IHM sisters: Sisters Jane Duke, Theresa Frere, Katie Clauss, former vice-principal, Ann Parker, former principal, Ruth Harkins, Betty Bullen, Ann Monica Bubser, Kathleen Lunsmann, Carol Loughney; and associates: Judy LaSage, former secretary and Peggy Howard, former principal.

The quote at the entrance of the school proclaims the Catholic identity and the ongoing commitment to Christ centered values that have been at the core of Archbishop Neale for the past 90 years:

Be it known to all who enter here that Christ is the reason for this school.
He is the unseen but ever present teacher in its classrooms.
He is the model of its faculty and the inspiration of its students.

IHM Sisters served in the school from its foundation in 1927 until 2007. IHM associates continued to serve as principal, teachers, and staff in the school after the sisters withdrew. More information on the school and its history can be found in a December 13, 2017 article in the Maryland Independent: Sister Theresa Frere, a graduate of Archbishop Neale School, is quoted in the article.
