In support of our sisters and brothers in Muslim communities in New Zealand and around the world

It is with profound sadness that we, the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scranton, PA, extend our deepest sympathy and prayers to the people of New Zealand and to our sisters and brothers in the Muslim communities around the world.  The deaths and injuries of so many worshipers in the two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand impel us to vehemently reject the violence, hatred, and division that presently seems to be spreading throughout our world.

We call upon our elected leaders and leaders around the world to abandon hateful rhetoric that feeds hatred and incites violence.  We are a country and world that is starving for a leadership that calls us all to be our best selves individually and collectively.

We invite ourselves to live lives that respect and celebrate the diversity among us and around us.  We challenge ourselves to move from a perspective of “us and them” and acknowledge the depth of beauty that resides in being a part of the human family that calls us to be a “WE.”

Finally, in our Direction Statement from our General Chapter of 2018, we committed ourselves to “embody unconditional love for the world by growing in contemplative consciousness of all that our world loves, pursues, and suffers.”  We encourage everyone with whom we live, work, minister, and pray to join us in finding ways to pursue a world where we all strive to communicate our unconditional love for all people without exception.
